Let's get hands on Brisbane!
Time & Location
24 Nov 2022, 8:30 am – 12:00 pm
Bellevue Park Scout Group Hall, 51 Sportsground St, Redcliffe QLD 4020, Australia
About the event
All right Brisbane ODA Members, it's time to get hands on!
Our Community Partners, Lions Recycle for Sight Australia is part of the Lions Clubs International Worldwide Eyeglass Recycling Program, headquartered in Queensland and operating throughout Australia and overseas.
They receive requests from humanitarian organisations either travelling to a developing country or supplying shipping container loads of suitable humanitarian aid from Australia to groups in the these countries.
Over the 26 years that the Australian program has operated, the program, has delivered over 7 million pairs of refurbished quality spectacles to men, women and children in need throughout Australia, Africa, Europe, Middle East, Asia, The Far East, China, The Pacific Rim and Oceania. Since Covid has hit they have been short on volunteer power. That's where we come in!
Lions Recycle for Sight Chairman Lion Ken Leonard and Secretary Nicolee Brown are going to talk us through everything they do to help get as many reusable pairs of spectacles out to those in need. In turn, we are going to use our optical skills to give some of our time back, and will spend some of the morning helping sort, clean and grade glasses.
This is a free, volunteer event for ODA Members only. Places are very limited for this event, so please only RSVP if you definitely intend on coming. You will receive a Certificate of Appreciation for volunteering your time at this event and gain one (1) ODA CPD Point.
*Enclosed footwear is required.
